This is an update to the Climate Change - Carbon Gas emissions I wrote in 2025 you can find here.

I wanted to incorporate the latest available data and found the https://climatetrace.org web site significantly changed. It now offers a wizard type interface allowing you to select the data you want to download.

Below is a screenshot of the data download page:

Climate Trace Data download

I made the following selection: CO2 gas emissions, by country and subsector for the period from 2021-Jan-01 until 2026-Oct-01.

The system then starts to prepare the Download file, it will even send you an email when the file is ready for download, including the link to do so.

Below a screenshot of the resulting .csv file:

Below is the workflow that loads the data into the emission_facts table. We have data until end of June 2026.

Here is a workflow that shows the emissions by continent for 2026 (January to June):

... and below the results: Asia is still the main producer of CO2.

The workflow below shows the evolution of CO2 emissions over time. Asia stands out.

Graph

The sharp drop for 2026 is because I only have 6 months of data for this year. The graph below is 'corrected' in the sense that it only takes into account the first 6 months of every year...

Graph

The good news is the graph is getting slowly lower for all continents.
